Overview
Chalk is a private, invite-only pick'em league platform. It is not a public consumer product — you can only create an account if you hold an invite link to a specific league. This Privacy Policy explains what information Chalk collects when you sign up and use the app, and how that information is used.
Information we collect
When you join a league through an invite link, we collect:
- Phone number — used to verify your identity and sign you in via a one-time passcode (OTP) sent by SMS, through Twilio Verify. Your phone number is also how account sign-in works going forward.
- Email address (fallback) — may be used as an alternate way to receive a one-time sign-in code if SMS delivery isn't available to you.
- Screen name and legal name — your screen name is shown to other members of your league. Your legal name is visible only to your league's commissioner, for settlement/record-keeping purposes.
- Avatar — an avatar you choose (initials or an emoji) to represent you in the league.
- Jurisdiction (state) and age attestation — the state you tell us you're in, and your confirmation that you are 18 or older, collected at sign-up.
- Picks and league activity — the selections you make each week, your league membership, and related pick history, used to run standings and league results.
Why we collect it
We use this information to:
- Create and secure your account (phone/email verification)
- Operate your league — track picks, standings, and results
- Confirm eligibility to participate (age and jurisdiction)
- Send you account-related messages, such as one-time sign-in codes and league updates (such as pick deadline reminders)
SMS / phone number use
Mobile information and messaging consent are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Chalk by PhaseZero Labs sends two kinds of text message, and they work differently:
- Sign-in codes (OTP). Sent to your number only when you request one to sign in. These are transactional, not toggleable, and required to use Chalk.
- League updates (such as pick deadline reminders and results). Optional — off by default, sent only if you check the updates box at sign-up. You can turn them on or off anytime in your notification settings, or stop them by replying STOP to any Chalk text message.
Message frequency: up to 4 messages per week during the NFL season. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to cancel league update texts at any time.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers necessary to operate Chalk, and only for that purpose:
- Twilio — sends SMS one-time passcodes and league update texts (such as pick deadline reminders).
- Supabase — hosts our database and handles authentication.
- Vercel — hosts the Chalk web application.
Within a league, your screen name, avatar, and picks are visible to other members of that same league only. Your phone number, email, and legal name are never shown to other league members.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Data retention
We retain account and league data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to maintain accurate league records and historical results. You can request deletion of your account by contacting us (see below).
Your choices
- Reply STOP to any Chalk text message to stop SMS messages.
- Contact us to request a copy of, correction to, or deletion of your personal information.
